Autumn Term
Welcome to year 6, your last year at our school and one that you will never forget! We start our year 6 journey by DISCOVERING skills you didn’t know you had whilst on a residential trip at PGL – a trip you will never forget full of action packed activities, lots of smiles and wonderful scenery. We build on our existing REASONING skills when we decide which piece of art is the best based on our own success criteria when researching artists within colourful art lessons. Using our EMPATHY power we empathise with heroes and their families from World War 1 and World War 2 when we discover what Britain was really like through the eyes of soldiers and evacuees. We ASK QUESTIONS in our exciting science topics where we find out how to make a rainbow with a light beam and also how we can light up an entire city at Christmas. In year 6 we often MAKE MISTAKES but we always learn from them this is especially important in our maths lessons where we become masters with our presentation and quickly turn into calculating wizards. We are RESILIENT in all of our lessons but we really demonstrate this power in PE where we achieve things we didn’t think we could ever be capable of. We will IMAGINE AND CREATE wooden memory boxes in D&T to store all of our wonderful Birchwood Junior memories and achievements since year 3. This term year 6 will GROW to not only be the oldest role models in school but fantastic role models within our learning too!
Electrifying times in the first term of 2021 for our year 6 team to realise anything is possible when we use our DREAM BIG powers!
