We Take the Welfare of Children Very Seriously
It is the duty of all staff to report to Mr M Davies the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) any concerns they have about the safety and welfare of any child.
The DSL can take advice from the Child Protection Advisory Team as required. The school has a duty to refer information, but are not the investigators. Records will be kept and children will be monitored if they are not referred. Referral may take place at a later date if the DSL has collected further pieces of evidence that causes concern.
All staff have a professional responsibility to share information with other agencies in order to safeguard children. While every effort will be made to inform parents of a referral to the Child Protection Advisory Team, the safety and welfare of the child will always be the overriding consideration and parents may not always be informed.
Operation Encompass
Birchwood Junior School is signed up to Operation Encompass which enables the Police to contact Mr M Davies as the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) by email to alert them of an incident of Domestic Abuse which has occurred within a family home. This is so we can support the needs of any child involved in an incident.
