Taking an evidence based approach
At Birchwood Junior School, we value rigorous experience and research when making decisions on the calibre of education our children receive. The Education Endowment Fund have done significant research into the key impact areas for quality teaching and learning within mathematics and we use this as the foundation of our decision making when it comes to the education of our students.

Birchwood Junior School holds direct links with the NCETM and works with our local East Midlands Maths Hub to improve the teaching and learning of mathematics in our community. Much of our planning and classroom practice comes from training provided by the team at the NCETM. We continue to work together to improve the quality of our teaching and strive for excellence for each and every learner in our setting.
This Hub offers all of our staff the opportunity to work with other schools, making links to reflect on our practice and work together to build our mastery approach. Our Maths lead has been trained by Debbie Morgan, the director of the NCETM and works as a Mastery Specialist throughout the county. She also has a Masters qualification in Mathematics Education. All staff in our school are passionate about ensuring that children receive the highest standard of mathematics teaching at all times.
